Mr. Madhu Goud Yakshi
MP from Nizamabad (AP)

Mr. Madhu Goud Yakshi

Madhu S Yaskhi, a name to be reckoned in the international community as a legal professional who had helped many Indian brethren solve their problems amicably in an alien land. In a profession where people make a mark after long periods of service, Madhu had made a name for himself by delivering legal service to expatriate communities, particularly Indians having problems in America. He had founded the International Legal and Trade Consultants and through this organization he had been able to impart valuable legal help to solve personal problems of people of Indian origin and also businesses started by them. According to him, many Indians and in specific the Telugu speaking are in the forefront of computer revolution both in India and in the United States of America. Madhu had been behind the success of many among them.

Born on 15 December 1960 to Y. Kistaiah and Y. Sulochana in a middle class agricultural family in Hayatnagar, Madhu has six sisters and four brothers. He is the second among them. His father’s younger brother Y. Pochaiah and wife Y. Anasuya adopted Madhu.

Regarding his education, Madhu studied in the local Zilla Parishad School. Later he completed his intermediate education from the City College with BPC (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) group; and then, his Bachelors Degree with Arts from the Nizam’s College. He finished his LLB from Delhi University between 1982-85; and later LLM from Osmania University. Though an average student, he managed to get a double promotion from Third standard to Fifth standard.

Almost all sports attracted Madhu. He used to play Ball badminton and was the captain of the team in his intermediate days. Reading also was one of his hobbies. He developed keen interest in reading Telugu literature and History. At a very young age, he read almost all the books of the great Telugu scholar Vishwanatha Satyanarayana.

Madhu had the qualities of a leader right from early childhood. Even in school, from First standard onwards, except for one year, he was the class leader. When he was in the eighth standard, he participated in the school elections and was elected General Secretary. This was an overwhelming achievement for Madhu as the two other candidates who contested with him were tenth class students. Sidelining them, the students had voted in Madhu’s favour. This was a clear indication of Madhu’s leadership qualities. While in the tenth class, he was elected President of the school.

Even in college, there was no set back to his leadership qualities. Change of atmosphere and place did not cause any hindrance or we can say that he did not allow hindrances to block his way to success. Even in college, he was the Vice President of the Student’s Union of PG College and Nizam College Students Union. While doing his LLM, he was the University Law College President. And now, he is contesting for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections with the Congress ticket, with an innate desire to serve the poor, downtrodden and needy people, especially of Andhra Pradesh.

He married Dr Shuchee, a gynecologist in the year 1991. The couple have two children. Madhu’s father died in a road accident in the year 1990. As there was no immediate medical attention, his condition deteriorated and he died. Madhu was very much moved by the sudden demise of his father in such a tragic way and this incident left a deep impact on his life. It also inspired him to become a cause for giving life to many accident victims and thus encouraged wife Dr Shuchee to change her subject from gynecology to endocrinology. Dr Shuchee had worked successfully in many hospitals in the United States of America. And now, she returned to India, for the sake of her children’s education and also with an intention to settle down in one place.

Mr. Sajjan Jindal
Vice Chairman & MD, JSW Steel

Mr. Sajjan Jindal

Sajjan Jindal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, JSW Steel, has come up with an ambitious programme in order to increase his presence in the core steel business. There are also indications that he is also interested in diversifying into the sectors such as power, cement, aluminium and infrastructure.

Sajjan Jindal, the second son of the late O.P. Jindal is the most aggressive of the four Jindal brothers. For instance, he doesn’t like his businesses being called the Sajjan Jindal Group. As a matter of fact, he has named his company Jindal South West Holding (JSW) Group.

In terms of statistic, Jindal at this moment of time has projects worth more than Rs 60,000 crore in his chosen sectors in various stages of implementation. It is worth mentioning in this regard that all the new verticals—energy, cement, aluminium and infrastructure— will tap the IPO market once financial closure is achieved.

According to sources, Jindal is moving fast in the power business. It has been making the headlines in the Indian media that JSW Energy plans to build 15,000 MW of capacity by 2015. Initial signs are that JSW Energy will tap the capital market in the first half of this year with a $1-billion IPO to part-finance its plans.

On the other side of the coin, JSW Cement is also lining up to tap the primary market. Point to be noted here is that Jindal has decided to set up a 5.3 MTPA slag-based cement plant in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Yash Chopra
Chairman of Yash Raj Films

Yash Chopra

Take the producing acumen of a Louis B Mayer or a David O. Selznick and combine it with the sublime directorial skills of a Frank Capra or a Michael Curtiz and you get some measure of Yash Chopra, the Baadshah of Blockbuster dreams for more than five decades.

Born on 27th September 1932, Yash Chopra’s journey from the lush green fields of Punjab – which keep reappearing in his movies in all their splendour- to the very highest echelons of the Hindi film industry has been as magical as any of his 40 movies.

Yash Chopra started out as an assistant to his brother, B.R.Chopra, and went on to direct 5 very successful films for his brother’s banner - B.R.Films - each of which proved to be a significant milestone in his development as a world class director of blockbusters. These were ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ (Blossom of dust – 1959), ‘Dharmputra’ (Adopted Son – 1961), ‘Waqt’ (Time – 1965) – India’s first true multistarrer generational family drama, ‘Ittefaq’ (Coincidence – 1969) & ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan’ (Man and Human – 1969). He has wielded the baton, additionally, for 4 films made by other film companies - ‘Joshila’ (Passionate – 1973), ‘Deewaar’ (The Wall – 1975), ‘Trishul’ (The Trident – 1978) & ‘Parampara’ (Tradition – 1993). But his greatest repertoire of work has been around the 40 films made under the banner that he launched - the banner that stands for the best of Hindi cinema – YASH RAJ FILMS, which now operates as a leading Film Studio of India.

Out of these films, he has directed 12 himself and these films have defined much of the language of Hindi movies as we know them today – especially the romantic picture. 'Daag' (The Stigma - 1973), 'Kabhi Kabhie' (Sometimes - 1976), 'Kaala Patthar' (Coal Mine – 1979), 'Silsila' (The Affair - 1981), 'Chandni' (Moonlight - 1989), 'Darr' (Fear - 1993), 'Dil To Pagal Hai' (The Heart Is Crazy - 1997) and 'Veer-Zaara' (Veer and Zaara - 2004) are some of the highly successful movies which Yash Chopra has directed A Yash Chopra directed movie is anchored in its strong screenplay – but embellished always with gorgeous locations, snow-capped mountains, lakes and rivers, beautiful women draped in gorgeous chiffon amidst fields of flowers – women who invariably go on to become icons after appearing in his movies. No wonder then that actresses think their careers have truly taken off only when they have acted in a Yash Chopra movie. But a Yash Chopra movie does not just engage the eyes and the heart – it seduces the ears as well. His sense of film music is impeccable – and each of his movies has musical scores and signature tunes that keep India humming years and years after its original release.

To many Indians, a Yash Chopra movie has been their passport to a world outside the one they inhabit. He was one of the first directors to take his camera to countries such as Switzerland, Holland, Germany and the United Kingdom. This has often led to a direct increase in visitors to those countries, and governments have not been shy in taking note. The Swiss Government has honoured him for helping rediscover Switzerland and he was presented a special Award by screen goddess, Ursula Andress, on behalf of the Swiss Government. In fact, a lake in Switzerland has been unofficially named ‘The Chopra Lake’ because of the way he has used it in films.

His directorial efforts outshine the work of directors less than half his age. If his achievements as director are staggering, his work as a producer is no less. He has never been shy of adventuring into bold and controversial themes – which are not just simple “message films.” Instead he has pulled off the more difficult task of weaving in socially relevant messages within the parameters of commercial cinema. The social comment has been meshed in with the smiles and tears and has managed to successfully bridge the gap between the older and the younger generations worldwide.

Yash Raj Films has also become a hotbed of grooming new talent, the most significant of whom is Yash Chopra’s own son, the director, Aditya Chopra. ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ (A Match Made in Heaven - 2008), the most recent blockbuster from YRF, produced by Yash Chopra and directed by his equally talented son, Aditya Chopra, has been the highest grossing film of all-time for both Yash Raj Films and India’s superstar, Shahrukh Khan.

Yash Chopra has unearthed new composers, new singers, and acting talent, almost all of whom have gone on to great heights in the industry. To be a part of a YRF film is the culmination of the fondest dreams for any talent in India - creative or technical. Yash Chopra, today, is more than a director and producer alone. In fact, the corporatization of “Bollywood” had its very genesis in the pioneering efforts of Yash Chopra. With his vast years of experience in the entertainment business, Yash Chopra is indisputably the leader of the Media and Entertainment firmament in India and the voice that governments and organizations listen to on matters pertaining to the rapidly booming Hindi film industry.

Even after seven decades, his vitality and creativity remain undiminished, and a new Yash Chopra or YRF film continues to remain the most anticipated event in the film calendar of India. For Indians of every age, Hindi cinema means Yash Chopra and Yash Chopra means Hindi cinema.

Mr. Sanjay Reddy
Vice-chairman of GVK Industries
& MD of Mumbai International Airport Ltd

Mr. Sanjay Reddy

G V Sanjay Reddy, 45, wears many hats. He is the vice-chairman of GVK, one of India's largest infrastructure developers; MD of the Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), which operates India's busiest airport; and CEO of GVK Biosciences. He is also on the board of the Hyderabad-based TajGVK. It's obviously helped that he is the only son of Group Chairman G V Krishna Reddy. These days, however, Reddy is mostly wearing the MIAL MD's hat, as the upgradation of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in Mumbai is one of the most challenging tasks any CEO can ever dream of. The job also involves taking decisions on hundreds of acres of land around the airport which is located in the prime area of Santacruz — a reason why he has now got 24-hour security (a plain clothed guard is his constant companion). He also doesn't take any call on his Blackberry if he can't recognise the number.
